Rainwater HOG - a Modular Water Storage Tank

Rainwater harvesting has long been the norm in Australia, a country that commonly experiences severe drought.  As a sign of the future for North America, the Australian building code has mandated rainwater harvesting for new construction.  Most familiar to those who know rainwater harvesting cisterns are the large below ground tanks.  These large cisterns are difficult to incorporate in small urban lots, remote areas, or the existing built environment. Further, for residential applications in climates with less rainfall, localities with restrictions on grewater reuse, or where the water consumption of the household is very little (seasonal, vacation property), these large cisterns are  overkill.  These obstacles and the premium of space in modern, urban living lead Sally Dominguez to design the modular rainwater HOG in 2005 in her hometown of Sydney, Australia. With a capacity of 189L/51 Gallons and measuring just 6 feet tall , under 2 feet wide, and less than 1 foot deep tall, the Rainwater HOG can fit under decks, between joists, up against walls and along side passageways.

The Rainwater HOG is a novel solution to the problem of rainwater or greywater storage in areas where space is at a premium. The rainwater HOG's relative small size enables it to fit into many spaced previously not available to water tanks, while its modular design enables it to be extended and capacity increased bit by bit and in multiple locations around your house and property. As your water requirements change, and as your local regulations inevitably increase the permitted uses for greywater, you can add more HOGs to your fleet.

The Rainwater HOG’s narrow profile makes it the perfect water storage solution along side walls, down narrow passages and underneath decks and house structures. Being able to site flat, on its side or stand upright on its end the Rainwater HOG is adaptable to almost any situation.  Furthermore, because of its size and shape, it is easily transported, easily installed without brut strength (only 40lbs when empty), and can be relocated if you move or do renos.

But how much does the rainwater HOG store?
